Moved!

So I have decided that may be moving to other place might better suit the nature of what I am doing. So I will port my pictures here to devian art. My username is still MyGumMyBear. I will also post my new sketches there from now on. As for this blog, I still want to use it because I like the name of it so much. I'll decide what to do with it later. :D

Thank you for following so far!

iPao a Whole Product

Boo! I haven't been posting for a while. Crisis + lazy time. Anyway, since summer is already here. I will be posting more frequently. (Hopefully, things can go crazy during summer too.)

This picture is not really a picture per se. It is part of my Strategic Thinking Paper for a marketing class. The concept here is supposed you are a product what do you have to sell. I made this crudely at 1am in the morning so it is not refined. Anyway, I think Thinking of Yourself as a whole product is an interesting concept. Something you can sketch up in your free time to keep for reference. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just a pile chart should do. I just went crazy with this one. (Your judgement is a little off at one 0'clock in the morning.)

Oh, in case you decide to make yours too, feel free to share it here. I want to know what other people put in theirs too.

DISCLAIMER: I am not thinking that I'm great or anything but, as a whole product, you sell what you can. ;)

A Huge Elephant

I just got myself a new tablet and I was so happy that I felt like drawing sth with it for this post. I don't know why I put a girl there. At that time I just thought that I didn't want to spend a whole hour only to draw an elephant, so I draw a girl + an elephant.

I think you can tell that I got lazy halfway. (I spent one hour on it and I am regretting that now T-T.) The shading is not as I intended it to be and I was too lazy to draw the background. Not to mention that the background colors are kind of um... interesting.

Anyway, this elephant actually looks somewhat like my stuff animal but mine is a she. Her name is Moshinobo. My friend (whose name is coincidentally Moshinobo) gave her to me. The elephant Moshinobo (and it is also true for the other Moshinobo) is small, soft and huggable. I wish you guys like this imitation of Moshinobo too!

Ice Blue

I sketched this eagle during my visit to DC. I am just touching this one up a bit with the background using photoshop. It was actually a pain since my tablet is not working, so I ended up using the trackpad on my laptop instead. It sometimes pains me that sth like this exists:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823100050

Whereas, in cruel reality, I am debating between these two to replace my old one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823100045
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823100047

A non-professional with limited budget like me surely have it rough. T-T

Anyway, I am not a picky person. The outcome of trackpad is good enough for me. Hope that you enjoy it! (^___^)

A few sketches during ASB trip

I didn't draw much during the trip bec. I spent most of my time sleeping. During the trip, I bought a few markers and have been using them a lot.
The first picture is a sleepy puppy. He is a sleepy head just like me!

Here is one of our ASB trip co-leaders. She is super sweet. I drew this while we were visiting Inveneo, a non-profit organization in San Francisco. Inveneo neighborhood is not very welcoming. I would not fancy walking there alone at night. They did quite a few cool stuffs still I do not like their approach that much. Anyway, it might be because of the presentation + personal belief that cannot represents the organization well enough.

Here are (supposed to be) another two friends during the trip. We went to have lunch near the city hall where there was a farmer market. There was also grassfield along the path. We were laying down after finishing our lunch. The girls made bracelets and crowns from flowers. Surprisingly enough, some boys in our trip can do it too. ("How did you know girls' secrets!?!")

Anyway, that's it for this week. School just started. ASB is a good experience. I am really glad that I joined the trip and would recommend any of my juniors at Stanford to participate too. :D

Excuse Excuse

"You updated your blog really often!" is what my friend told me.
Ha ha ha. That is so true. I think as a college student, updating the blog everyday is hard. Actually I am just lazy. I normally use Ubuntu but it is not compatible with my scanner. Every time I want to scan something, I have to turn off the computer. Boot up to Windows. Scan it. Post it. Then, turn off the computer again and boot up to Ubuntu. So I will change my resolution to once a week.
Last week I didn't post bec. it was my final week and this week I'm joining an alternative spring break trip. We are learning about design and services. It is really fun.

Anyway, I drew this one real quick on napkins during a meeting.

My Scanner!

Here is the sketch of my scanner. The very one that I use to scan picture for this blog. Actually with out this little girl here, this blog wouldn't exist at all. She looks a little plumber than her real self because I sketched this last night right before I had 12-hour of sleep (from 9:30pm - 9:30am. Isn't that sweet?)

Zero Banner

I didn't do a real sketch this time but I just made a banner for my mechatronics project website. Since I am lazy, I will just post this one instead of drawing another pict.

Little boy's treasures

I am not a friend with watercolor. Actually, it is one-sided love. I LOVE watercolor. Unfortunately the love is not returned. I can't relally control it.

Anyway, my inspiration for this picture is the fact that it's 10:30pm and I was craving for some candies. (Sadly, I have none at the time. Worse, I still have none now and it's 12:30am.) The picture turned into something else but I still managed to put some candies in it.

A Triam Udom girl

Yeah! I'm back. I drew this girl during a meeting. I think she looks like a friend of my during high school year.

For me, this picture's nostalgic since she is wearing my high school uniform. There is a saying that you can tell who is attending my high school (Triam Udomsuksa) by just looking at the back. Well, if such a student still exists, it should be this girl. I like her tidy ponytail (an opposite image of mine.)
Actually, I think it doesn't really matter whether you look like a TU student or not. Everyone there is talented and unique. I am glad that I am also a part of that.

Crisis time.....

Yeah, I have disappeared for a while. Too much work, I guess so no more posts for a while. I will be back this weekend. :)

Back!

Yeah! So my scanner is working now. It appears that I left it plucked in for too long and that's why it protested by stopping to function. It's an old scanner that someone was giving away so please bear with it (and me!)
There is not much I have to say about the first one except that the boy is sitting in a bathtub not a boat.

The second one is my attempt to draw a singer from one MV that I have been listening to a lot. Someone told me that it isn't a good song, still it sticks in my head somehow. I really like upbeat music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOZHK6AWH_E Sadly enough, I think I couldn't capture the moment that I want, but I'm too lazy to draw it again anyway.

Scanner broken ;(

I have good news and bad news. Good news is my scanner isn't actually broken. Bad news is my laptop doesn't recognize it. I tried reinstalling my driver but it still doesn't work. -_____-

Anyway, I am still working on it. Just to let you guys know. :D

AlRobot

It stands for Alien Robot. I started off with drawing a robot; however, it turned out to look like an alien too.

Question: Why does this robot have to go to school? If you can have one, will you send your robot to school or not?

Another announcement: I won't be back until the end of this week. Crisis time. Still, I'm working on a bigger picture right now and will post the prototype on Saturday if not Friday. Hope that it can be accounted for all my absents!

Trees Under Water

What is going on in this picture? To keep it short. I don't know what I was doing! Anyway, I am lazy too, so I just left some part uncolored.

You can also see a little disaster in the water part. First I just used Copic baby blue to color it and everything looked fine. Then an idea popped up into my mind. Hey, why don't you just add ice blue at the edge? It would look so cool! ... So the devil says. The result is what you see. Ha ha ha.

Announcement: I won't be posting new sketches until this coming Thursday thanks to a mid-term and programming assignment. :D

Berm Buff & Steam Boat

I intended to post this sketch yesterday. Then I headed to bed for a nap and never woke up till the morning. Sound familiar? Anyway, buffaloes are precious for farmers in Thailand. We don't see as many as before since they are replaced by 'iron buffaloes.'

This one is a random sketch. I was thinking of drawing rural scenes. I drew both sketches on a train from somewhere around Duke to DC. It was a pretty fun trip except that I forgot to bring my wallet and passport. It's surprising that they even let me on the train.

Leftover

Today is the first time in forever that I went to SWE lunch meeting. Well, when the e-mail says that there is going to be Thai food, you just can't resist, right?

The food was great, especially the grilled pork. The only thing that disappointed me just a little is the drink. They only had root beer today. It will take a lot of my energy and blog space to describe how much I dislike the drink, so I will just leave it at that.

I ate/drink them all anyway, which is bad. According to one experiment, people tend to prejudice against a fat person without realizing it. T-T

Anyway, during the talk, I just sketched this up real quick and then I use markers to color it up a little. Hope that it is not too sloppy! ^__^

Ah-Muay in Kimono (*Thank you Pin for catching that.)

Ah-Muay is the word we use to call a Chinese girl in Thai. In this picture I tried to draw my main sponsor for clothes, drawing materials, and food in Thailand (i.e. my sister.)

Well, it doesn't really look like her. I drew this picture from a photograph we took in a studio a few years back. My sister looks really Chinese, which we biologically are, but she likes a lot of Japanese stuff. That is why this picture is called "Ah-Muay in Kim0no." :D

PS: I was scared to death when I scanned this picture. I used oil pastels and they are quite sticky. Result: I spent a while wiping out the color from my scanner.

PS(2): Don't tell my sis about this post. She will kill me.

MyGumMyBear = Mee-Gum-Mee-Bear

Yesterday, a few people asked me about the name of this blog: MyGumMyBear, so I think I will talk about it today. MyGumMyBear is pronounced Mee-Gum-Mee-Bear. It is a pun my friend and I came up with during one of our MSN conversation. In Thai, Mee = there is/are, has/have. Gum = clenching your fist. Bear = spreading out your fingers.

Therefore MyGumMyBear is actually "When there is clenching, there is relaxing." Tricky, isn't it?

As for this sketch, I used reed pen with water-proof ink. I first thought about coloring it as well, but I was hungry at this stage and chose to get dinner instead.

Star Gazers & Random Sketches

If you follow this blog well enough, you might notice that I disappeared for a while. Sorry guys, I have been busy lately, thanks to CS140(OS) and my services project work. Anyway, I compensate by posting random sketches apart from today's sketches too. Hope that you don't mind. :-)
The first pictures is colored with color pencil. I am not really good at coloring my picture, but I will try to get better soon.
The second one is a just a collection of everyday objects in my sketch book. I want to make a web-site with everyday objects concept but haven't had time to do that yet. I hope that a day when these pictures become handy will come.

Feedback

Yo! So I lied. The place has wireless, but I just didn't have time to upload anything anyway. The retreat was fun and transformative. I learned a lot, but I don't think I have time to talk about it now. (One bad thing about the retreat is that you don't have time to work and well, I am buried under a pile of work right now)

OK. Here is the picture of my friend. She was writing the feedback for our retreat. No more comments. Oh boy, I really miss it!

It's 3AM!!!

Ha ha ha. This is for yesterday, actually. I intended to post this picture last night, but decided that I need a quick nap at 10pm. So, I went to bed and never woke up until 7am today.

I drew this picture at 3am in the morning while working on a problem set. The original is in pencil. I used photoshop to color it up. Hope that it doesn't look too shabby.

On one note, I am going to go to a retreat somewhere without the Internet, so there will be no post for Friday-Monday. :-)

Bunny and Dragonfly

It is at the back of my sketchbook. This is random but I am craving for carrot cake right now. Today, I mistook ginger bread for it and spent $2 on what I didn't really want. T-T

Got a Problem?

Sometimes you don't know what you are doing, right? Me too! Actually, many times. This picture is one of those situations. At first, I set out to draw a girl. I'm not kidding.

However, after several failures, I decided that I should go back to what I am comfortable with. So I drew a guy. Still, my disaster did not end there. I picked up some markers that I bought a year ago and thought that I could use them to color the flesh. The result is what appears in front of your eyes (cry).

Anyway, one good thing about drawing quick sketches is that you won't be terribly sad when you mess up. Well, that is not true. I am a little disappointed and was tempted to spend a few minutes on beautifying it with photoshop. (I didn't, obviously.)

The blue background at the back is to tone the mood down a little bit. This guy can keep his head cool even when he is making a face like this. ^___^

Relax time!

OK, so I lied. It is really hard too keep up with this when you sometimes have to work on a problem set until after midnight. Anyway, I hope my "day" system is pretty good enough.

I drew this one with Faber Castle 4 Pitt, Sepia set.
It is one of my favorite tools so far. I love drawing cups in general. I don't know why but I draw cups whenever I don't know what else to draw and this is just my attempt to change a cup into something else. The soup also looks more like hot chocolate too!

P.S. If you have looked at some of my sketchbooks before, you will realize that I am recycling my picture. Well, just a little should be OK, right?

First Post Ever (Hope it is not the last)

First of all, the name of the blog itself does not have anything to do with what it really is. I get this blog set up a year ago just because I like the name "MyGumMyBear," and will be extremely sad (exaggerated) if someone snatches it. If you want to know why I like the name so much, we can have a long discussion through e-mails. :-P

OK, here is what I will do with this blog. I will post one of my sketches everyday (except during crisis time... i.e. midterms and finals.) Why? I love drawing but I normally forsake it for something else. Just hope that this blog will somehow force me to draw more often.

Here is a quick sketches I drew yesterday while waiting for a bus. The bus was 10 minutes late and it was cold. I didn't have enough time to finish it when the bus arrived, but I have no complaints since it was warmer in the bus anyway.

Disclaimers:
1. I'm not an artist! Sorry but it's true. I just appear to like drawing and doodling, so please don't expect a masterpiece here. (See the picture as my supporting evidence.)

2. I'm not philosophical. Sad again, but I am pretty simple-minded. I might often talk about my sketchs but I sometimes say very little about them too. If you wish there would be any sophisticated discussion here, it might not come from me. (Still, you are welcomed to start one!)

Those said, I would appreciate your visits and comments. I start this blog to keep a record of my sketches and such. Just think of it as a not-so-personal picture diary. Visit this blog when you are bored or want to check how this little blog is doing. ;-)
