Trees Under Water

What is going on in this picture? To keep it short. I don't know what I was doing! Anyway, I am lazy too, so I just left some part uncolored.

You can also see a little disaster in the water part. First I just used Copic baby blue to color it and everything looked fine. Then an idea popped up into my mind. Hey, why don't you just add ice blue at the edge? It would look so cool! ... So the devil says. The result is what you see. Ha ha ha.

Announcement: I won't be posting new sketches until this coming Thursday thanks to a mid-term and programming assignment. :D

Berm Buff & Steam Boat

I intended to post this sketch yesterday. Then I headed to bed for a nap and never woke up till the morning. Sound familiar? Anyway, buffaloes are precious for farmers in Thailand. We don't see as many as before since they are replaced by 'iron buffaloes.'

This one is a random sketch. I was thinking of drawing rural scenes. I drew both sketches on a train from somewhere around Duke to DC. It was a pretty fun trip except that I forgot to bring my wallet and passport. It's surprising that they even let me on the train.

Leftover

Today is the first time in forever that I went to SWE lunch meeting. Well, when the e-mail says that there is going to be Thai food, you just can't resist, right?

The food was great, especially the grilled pork. The only thing that disappointed me just a little is the drink. They only had root beer today. It will take a lot of my energy and blog space to describe how much I dislike the drink, so I will just leave it at that.

I ate/drink them all anyway, which is bad. According to one experiment, people tend to prejudice against a fat person without realizing it. T-T

Anyway, during the talk, I just sketched this up real quick and then I use markers to color it up a little. Hope that it is not too sloppy! ^__^

Ah-Muay in Kimono (*Thank you Pin for catching that.)

Ah-Muay is the word we use to call a Chinese girl in Thai. In this picture I tried to draw my main sponsor for clothes, drawing materials, and food in Thailand (i.e. my sister.)

Well, it doesn't really look like her. I drew this picture from a photograph we took in a studio a few years back. My sister looks really Chinese, which we biologically are, but she likes a lot of Japanese stuff. That is why this picture is called "Ah-Muay in Kim0no." :D

PS: I was scared to death when I scanned this picture. I used oil pastels and they are quite sticky. Result: I spent a while wiping out the color from my scanner.

PS(2): Don't tell my sis about this post. She will kill me.

MyGumMyBear = Mee-Gum-Mee-Bear

Yesterday, a few people asked me about the name of this blog: MyGumMyBear, so I think I will talk about it today. MyGumMyBear is pronounced Mee-Gum-Mee-Bear. It is a pun my friend and I came up with during one of our MSN conversation. In Thai, Mee = there is/are, has/have. Gum = clenching your fist. Bear = spreading out your fingers.

Therefore MyGumMyBear is actually "When there is clenching, there is relaxing." Tricky, isn't it?

As for this sketch, I used reed pen with water-proof ink. I first thought about coloring it as well, but I was hungry at this stage and chose to get dinner instead.

Star Gazers & Random Sketches

If you follow this blog well enough, you might notice that I disappeared for a while. Sorry guys, I have been busy lately, thanks to CS140(OS) and my services project work. Anyway, I compensate by posting random sketches apart from today's sketches too. Hope that you don't mind. :-)
The first pictures is colored with color pencil. I am not really good at coloring my picture, but I will try to get better soon.
The second one is a just a collection of everyday objects in my sketch book. I want to make a web-site with everyday objects concept but haven't had time to do that yet. I hope that a day when these pictures become handy will come.

Feedback

Yo! So I lied. The place has wireless, but I just didn't have time to upload anything anyway. The retreat was fun and transformative. I learned a lot, but I don't think I have time to talk about it now. (One bad thing about the retreat is that you don't have time to work and well, I am buried under a pile of work right now)

OK. Here is the picture of my friend. She was writing the feedback for our retreat. No more comments. Oh boy, I really miss it!

It's 3AM!!!

Ha ha ha. This is for yesterday, actually. I intended to post this picture last night, but decided that I need a quick nap at 10pm. So, I went to bed and never woke up until 7am today.

I drew this picture at 3am in the morning while working on a problem set. The original is in pencil. I used photoshop to color it up. Hope that it doesn't look too shabby.

On one note, I am going to go to a retreat somewhere without the Internet, so there will be no post for Friday-Monday. :-)

Bunny and Dragonfly

It is at the back of my sketchbook. This is random but I am craving for carrot cake right now. Today, I mistook ginger bread for it and spent $2 on what I didn't really want. T-T

Got a Problem?

Sometimes you don't know what you are doing, right? Me too! Actually, many times. This picture is one of those situations. At first, I set out to draw a girl. I'm not kidding.

However, after several failures, I decided that I should go back to what I am comfortable with. So I drew a guy. Still, my disaster did not end there. I picked up some markers that I bought a year ago and thought that I could use them to color the flesh. The result is what appears in front of your eyes (cry).

Anyway, one good thing about drawing quick sketches is that you won't be terribly sad when you mess up. Well, that is not true. I am a little disappointed and was tempted to spend a few minutes on beautifying it with photoshop. (I didn't, obviously.)

The blue background at the back is to tone the mood down a little bit. This guy can keep his head cool even when he is making a face like this. ^___^

Relax time!

OK, so I lied. It is really hard too keep up with this when you sometimes have to work on a problem set until after midnight. Anyway, I hope my "day" system is pretty good enough.

I drew this one with Faber Castle 4 Pitt, Sepia set.
It is one of my favorite tools so far. I love drawing cups in general. I don't know why but I draw cups whenever I don't know what else to draw and this is just my attempt to change a cup into something else. The soup also looks more like hot chocolate too!

P.S. If you have looked at some of my sketchbooks before, you will realize that I am recycling my picture. Well, just a little should be OK, right?

First Post Ever (Hope it is not the last)

First of all, the name of the blog itself does not have anything to do with what it really is. I get this blog set up a year ago just because I like the name "MyGumMyBear," and will be extremely sad (exaggerated) if someone snatches it. If you want to know why I like the name so much, we can have a long discussion through e-mails. :-P

OK, here is what I will do with this blog. I will post one of my sketches everyday (except during crisis time... i.e. midterms and finals.) Why? I love drawing but I normally forsake it for something else. Just hope that this blog will somehow force me to draw more often.

Here is a quick sketches I drew yesterday while waiting for a bus. The bus was 10 minutes late and it was cold. I didn't have enough time to finish it when the bus arrived, but I have no complaints since it was warmer in the bus anyway.

Disclaimers:
1. I'm not an artist! Sorry but it's true. I just appear to like drawing and doodling, so please don't expect a masterpiece here. (See the picture as my supporting evidence.)

2. I'm not philosophical. Sad again, but I am pretty simple-minded. I might often talk about my sketchs but I sometimes say very little about them too. If you wish there would be any sophisticated discussion here, it might not come from me. (Still, you are welcomed to start one!)

Those said, I would appreciate your visits and comments. I start this blog to keep a record of my sketches and such. Just think of it as a not-so-personal picture diary. Visit this blog when you are bored or want to check how this little blog is doing. ;-)
